Eric Troiano & Mike Titlebaum Duo Proposal NASA Region 8 Conference Proposal Program
Eric Troiano joined the faculty at Ithaca College in the fall of 2022 and previously taught at the University of Arkansas. He maintains an active teaching and performing career as a soloist and chamber musician. He has been a guest artist at numerous institutions. As a member of the Viridian Saxophone Quartet, he performs regularly across the country and has won top prizes in many competitions. As an accomplished baritone saxophonist, Eric has pioneered many solo and chamber works for the instrument. Eric received a BM in music education and saxophone performance from Ithaca College, and a MM and DMA in saxophone performance from Michigan State University. His primary teachers include Joseph Lulloff and Steven Mauk. Eric is a Conn-Selmer artist.
Saxophonist/composer/arranger Mike Titlebaum is Professor and Director of Jazz Studies at Ithaca College where he directs the Jazz Ensemble, coaches combos, teaches jazz saxophone and courses in jazz standards, arranging, repertoire and pedagogy. In 2010 he founded an annual jazz composition contest, later endowed by a generous donation. He is author of the book "Jazz Improvisation Using Simple Melodic Embellishment,” published by Routledge/Taylor and Francis in 2021. Mike has performed in many NYC venues, including the Blue Note, Smalls, Augies, the pit orchestra of the Broadway musical "Cats" at the Winter Garden Theater. He has played with dozens of internationally recognized artists and groups, and plays often with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. Recently, he performed as soloist with the Eastman Wind Orchestra for the premiere of his concerto composition “Lifelong Adventure.” He has presented at numerous conferences including JEN, ISIM, NYSSMA, NYSBDA and TMEA.
