Jarod Apple, Saxophone and Molly Orlando, Piano

Jarod Apple is a saxophonist, educator and multi-instrumental performer hailed for his technical prowess and emotional depth. Based in Lowell, MA, Jarod teaches and performs across New England and the Tri-state area. As a performer, Jarod has been featured with various orchestras, wind ensembles, jazz orchestras and chamber groups, as well as a solo performer across the country, having had the opportunity to play in Lincoln Center, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Dizzy’s Jazz Club, the Navy International Saxophone Symposium and NASA regional and national conferences. A champion for new music, Jarod was invited to the 2024 Timbre Project through New Music Mosaic, and was a Performance Fellow at the 2023 Cortona Sessions for New Music. In competition, Jarod was the winner of the Rutgers University Graduate Concerto 2024 Competition, placed Second in the 2023 London Classical Music Competition, was the winner of the 2023 Bergen Philharmonic Young Artist Competition, and was the 2017 winner of the Arkansas Tech Concerto competition. Jarod is a member of the NYC-based reed quintet, Voyager Reed Quintet, which has presented masterclasses and concerts across the country and internationally. Recent ensemble accolades include being selected as Semi-Finalists for the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition, presenting a recital at the 2024 ICA Conference in Dublin, Ireland, winning Chamber Music America’s Ensemble Forward Grant, and joining Imani Winds for a Summer in the City performance at Lincoln Center

As an Educator, Jarod has taught students ranging from ages 4 to 75, on various instruments. A student of education with several years of teaching experience, Jarod wants nothing more than to be able to help spread the love of music to the younger generation. Jarod currently teaches at several music schools across New England, as well as running an online lesson program. On the marching field, Jarod was a Teaching Assistant for the Marching Scarlet Knights at Rutgers University and led the ATU Band of Distinction for 2 years as Head Drum major (2017) and assistant drum major (2016). Jarod has been a conducting teacher and judge for various Junior High and High School drum major selection processes and competitions, as well as an Instructor at the 2018 Frontlines Marching Band Camp.

Jarod is a Doctoral Candidate in Saxophone Performance at Rutgers University - studying under Dr. Paul Cohen. Jarod holds a Master of Music Degree in Classical Saxophone from the Manhattan School of Music and a Bachelor of Music Education from Arkansas Tech University, studying both saxophone with Mr. Ken Futterer and voice with Dr. John Clements. Jarod is a Silverstein Works NextGen Artist and exclusively plays Silverstein Works ligatures.
