Chaitravi Kulkarni, from Toronto, Canada, is the co-principal of the Western Michigan University Wind Symphony and holds the tenor saxophone chair of the Solaris Saxophone Quartet., and holds the saxophone studio assistantship at Western Michigan. Born in India, Chaitravi resided in the United Arab Emirates for most of her life, until she moved to Canada at 11, where she began her formal music education. Chaitravi is immensely interested in playing culturally relevant music and supporting underrepresented composers, especially music reflecting her heritage. She was also one of two recipients of the newly inaugurated Solomon and Lent Experiential Learning Fund in London, Ontario. which allowed her to work with the world-renowned music organization, El Sistema as a student teacher along with many scholarships in jazz and conducting through the London Music Scholarship Foundation. Chaitravi holds a bachelor’s degree in music education from the University of Western Ontario in Canada, where she studied with Dr. Bobbi Thompson, and is currently a candidate for the Master of Music degree, majoring in saxophone performance, studying with Dr. Henning Schröder at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, MI.
